Joorjoisi

Boca de Yuma, Dominican Republic

Joorjoisi Cave is the most significant dry cave known in the Boca de Yuma area. The entrance area was mined for guano in the late 1900s, but it appears locals never entered farther, as all other areas remain pristine. Frenchman Alain Gilbert may have mapped the cave in the 1990s or so, although this cannot be confirmed. The cave was rediscovered and mapped in February 2022 by Lukas Eddy, Suhei Eddy, Ashlee Lee and Dave Weimer. They left one lead unchecked, as it was a tight crawl that would require breaking formations to pass. However, the cave likely continues. There are numerous other caves nearby, and likely several hundred caves similar to Joorjoisi awaiting discovery in the wasp-filled jungle surrounding Boca de Yuma. Joorjoisi can easily be considered one of the prettiest caves in the Caribbean. As such, its location is kept secret, and local farmers are unaware of this cave.
