Cueva Taina is near the Santo Domingo airport and a 45 minute drive from downtown Santo Domingo, you will need directions to get there.
The cave is located on private property and an entrance fee must be paid to the owner to dive here. The entrance is a large sinkhole with a metal spiral staircase that leads right to the water's edge.
There are two different sides to this cave, the right side leads through a large tunnel and a big airdome, following the main line almost at the end, a jump to the left down a boulder collapse to the longest section of the cave, here the room is quite big and decorated, there is a pronounced hallocline and the walls are very white.
The connection to this former exit was made by Walter Frischbutter (Treasure Divers Boca Chica) and Ralf Biegel. The deep north-east side was dove to the current end by Wulf Schubert and Stefan Meszaros after pushing and opening up a major SM passage. Each side can be seen with two AL80's and is suitable to any configuration, access is very easy and, and cars are safe when parked inside the property, kids will carry your tanks down for a fee. Please check the links section for this area's dive shops, hotels and filling stations.
